Chamber singers' holiday concert set The University of South Dakota Chamber Singers will present a special "Musical Holiday" concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 in Slagle Auditorium.
The USD Chamber Singers will perform the famous classic Gloria, composed by the celebrated 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc. Gloria received its premiere performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in 1961 and has since become recognized as one of the most popular and beautiful choral classics of the 20th century.
This performance will feature student soloists Gretchen Burbach of Vermillion, and Elizabeth Peterson of Freeman. Student pianist Eric Eichorst of Waseca, MN, will accompany the USD Chamber Singers.
Additional vocal solo performances will feature Elizabeth Bennett of Sioux City, IA, and Shelly Bottorff of Webster City, IA, both winners of the South Dakota Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Vocal Competition held in October 1999.
The USD Chamber Singers will conclude the concert program with the performance of A Musicological Journey through the 12 Days of Christmas by the 20th century American composer Craig Courtney. This unique choral work travels through musical styles from the 10th century to the 19th century based upon the popular Christmas song.
The USD Chamber Singers are conducted by Professor Larry Torkelson.
The public is invited to attend this special holiday concert performance. There is no admission charge.
