Dakota Valley falls to Vermillion 62-51 The Vermillion High varsity Lady Tanagers pulled away in the last stanza to beat the Dakota Valley Panthers 62-51 in girls basketball Nov. 2 at McCook Lake in the first round of the District 8A Tournament.

VHS had led by only five heading into the final quarter.

Ashley Bjorkman scored 19 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and made 1 assist.

The Lady Tanagers jumped ahead 11-8 after the first quarter, went into the locker room up 35-25 at halftime, and then led 41-36 after the third period.

VHS held onto the win from the free throw line, making 26 of 35 charity tosses to 9 of 15 for Dakota Valley varsity.

VHS improved its record to 12-6, while Dakota Valley varsity dropped to 13-6.

VHS made 4 of 7 three-point attempts. The Lady Tanagers sank 12 of 32 field goal attempts, while Dakota Valley varsity was 21 of 40 from the field. Dakota Valley varsity made 0 of 10 three-pointers.

VHS held a 39-17 edge on the boards.
