A Vermillion home sustained extreme fire damage in the attic and north side rooms Oct. 28, but the investigation continues as to the cause of the blaze. Vermillion firefighters were called at about 1:30 p.m. to 725 West 8th Street. Flames and heavy smoke were already visible from the north windows when they arrived on the scene, but they were able to control the fire within one-half hour, according to Vermillion Fire Chief Doug Brunick. About 25 firefighters were on the scene with two engines, a ladder truck and rescue truck. Neither Julie Edwards, who rents the house, nor her children were home at the time. The fire was reported by a neighbor.
