South Dakota Public Radio completes successful drive

South Dakota Public Radio completes successful drive South Dakota Public Radio closed its successful 1999 fall pledge drive with $45,289 in support from generous listeners across the state.

The drive, in mid-October, drew responses from 591 listeners, with 97 of them becoming new members of the Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

The drive emphasized "Timeless Classics for the New Millennium" the unique nature of SDPR with its mix of news, information, entertainment and more.

The money will be used to pay for the programming that has made SDPR a favorite across the state including popular local shows like Classics with Owen DeJong, Jazz Nightly and the South Dakota Forum Newshour, plus dozens of national news and entertainment programs.

"Our listeners prove, once again, that there is a market for intelligent, informative, thought-provoking radio," said Terry Harris, director of Radio for SDPB. "We are grateful for their support."

One of the popular features of this year's drive included tickets to a live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion as thank you gifts to donor at the $250 level. The popular Garrison Keillor show will air live from Rapid City at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 with an encore of that show at noon Sunday, Nov. 21.
