Vivaldi's Four Seasons in a millennium version The USD Chamber Orchestra will perform the popular concertos called the Four Seasons on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall in the USD Music Department. The solo violinist will be USD Professor John Thomson, who will also direct the performance.
Thomson calls this a "once in a millennium version," because besides featuring Vivaldi's ever-popular music, a display of photographs depicting images of the seasons described in the music will be presented. Vermillion photographer Don Skillman has worked closely with Thomson to produce a display that closely reflects Vivaldi's meaning and enhances the descriptive nature of the music.
As if this is not enough, four sonnets by Vivaldi, planned to be presented with the music, will be read by well-known media personality Sylvia Henkin.
Thomson said, "The concert should truly be a vivid seasonal representation. It is very rare that all these elements are brought together, and this must be the best piece to do this with."
Donations to benefit USD music students will be accepted after the concert. For more information, call 677-5725.
