Yankton Children’s Choir will present concert Dec. 5

Yankton Children's Choir will present concert Dec. 5 More than 100 children's voices will "Sing With Joy!" when the Yankton Children's Choir (YCC) presents its annual Christmas concert, Sunday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dakota Theatre.

General admission tickets are available in advance at the Dakota Theatre Box Office (open Monday-Friday, noon until 5 p.m.; 605-665-4711). Any remaining will be sold at the door. An adult seat is $5; students, K-12, will pay just $2.

The evening of new and traditional holiday music will feature not only the Yankton Children's Choir's own two choirs the Preparatory Choir and the Concert Choir but also a special guest appearance of the 40-voice Siouxland Youth Chorus of Sioux City, IA, under the direction of Shirley Neugebauer-Luebke.

"We are so pleased the Siouxland Youth Chorus will be joining us," said Lea Ann Schramm, YCC choral director. "We think that a hundred-plus unchanged voices singing Silent Night will put everyone in the Christmas mood!"

Other musical guests will also be assisting with the concert, including Mike Hilson, Yankton, guitar; Janine Tramp, Crofton, NE, flute; and The Glory Ringers handbell choir of Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, directed by Marilyn Nyberg.

The evening's repertoire will include sacred and secular Christmas, New Year's and winter songs, performed in English, Latin, French, and German. The wide spectrum of music from Benjamin Britten's A New Year Carol to Winter Wonderland and Let it Snow, Let it Snow! promises something for everyone.

The singers of the Yankton Children's Choir, who have been rehearsing since early September, represent 11 South Dakota and Nebraska communities, and range in age from third- through eighth-grade.

Fifteen members of the YCC Preparatory Choir and 48 make up the Concert Choir. The YCC musical staff includes Schramm; Margaret Lyons, associate choral director; JoAnne Hamilton, Hartington, NE, assistant choral director; and Justin Metz, Preparatory Choir accompanist.
