4-H'ers honored during 4-H Recognition Event Nov. 14 Four-H members, leaders and friends of 4-H were recognized Sunday, Nov. 14 at the annual Clay County 4-H Recognition Event held at the 4-H Center, Vermillion.
Friends of 4-H awards were presented to Margaret Williams, Vermillion, Wayne Thedorff, Vermillion' Greg VerHeul, Viborg, and Jim Rydell, Vermillion, by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association. This award is presented to individuals and/or businesses for their support and cooperation with the Clay County 4-H Program.
The 4-H Meritorious Service Award was presented to Gwen Orr for her continuous support of the Clay County 4-H Youth Program. This award is also sponsored by the Leaders Association.
Alumni Awards were awarded to Scott Jepsen, Meckling, Leslie Nelson, Vermillion, Kay Hanson, Centerville, and Dan Rederick, Wakonda.
Ten-year Clover Awards were presented to the following 4-H Leaders: Cyndi Dendinger, Doralee Lynch and Cathi Powell, all of Vermillion, and Glenn Nelson of Meckling. Fifteen-year Clover Award was awarded to Sharron Jensen of Vermillion. April Gawboy, Will Kennedy, Leslie Nelson and Mary Ring, all of Vermillion were recognized as first-year leaders.
Graduating members awards were presented to Brooke Jensen, Nina Joy, Lynn Lewison, Karen Lynch, Adam Nelson, Rachel M. Nelson, Amy O'Connor, Carolyn O'Connor and Melissa O'Connor.
The Outstanding 4-H Club Award was sponsored by Community First State Bank. First place went to Coyote Cubs led by Joe and Jeanette Hubert and Mike and Kathy Lynch. Second place was awarded to the Clay County Cubs 4-H Club led by Don Lindstom and Leslie Nelson. The Community Service Club Award and Traveling Plaque, sponsored by Vermillion Civic Council and Community First State Bank, was presented to the County Gals & Guys 4-H Club led by Marlys Larson and Iris Rydell for first place. Second place was presented to the Jolly Juniorettes 4-H Club led by Cyndi Dendinger and Doralee Lynch.
Four-H Record Book awards, sponsored by Community First State Bank, were awarded to Andy Peterson, Garrett Jepsen, Korry Speakman, Zach Holoch, Nick Peterson, Rob Hansen, Dean Miller, Daniel Nelson, Evan Peterson, Becca Johnson, Stacey Joy, Shannon Jepsen, Emily Miller, Colette Joy, Kristen Johnson, Tabitha Hubert Nina Joy and Krystal Lynch.
The 4-H Conference Scholarship, sponsored by the Dillion Estate Fund and the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was presented to Katie Carlson of Vermillion.
Sweepstakes Awards, sponsored by the Clay County Youth Trust Fund and the 4-H Leaders Association, were awarded to the following members: Agriculture � Andy Peterson, beginner, Emily Miller, junior and Dean Miller, senior; Home Economics � Stacey Joy, beginner, Colette Joy and Theresa Ring, juniors, and Leslie Larson, senior; Personal Development � Emily Holoch, beginner, Nick Peterson, junior, and Tabitha Hubert, senior.
Horse Sweepstakes, sponsored by the Vermillion Saddle Club, were presented to Sarah Sample, beginner, Ellen Kennedy, junior, and Megan Griffith, senior.
Shooting Sports Sweepstakes were earned by John Lindstrom, beginner, Karrie Plate, junior, and Jeff Goeden, senior. The Shooting Sports award is sponsored by the Clay County Sportsmen's Club.
The Outstanding Horse Award, in memory of Joe Millette and sponsored by Margaret Williams and Frank Schieber, was awarded to Sarah Plate.
Farm Bureau awards were presented for participation in Leadership, Citizenship and Safety to Nick Peterson, junior, and Nina Joy, senior.
The Helping Hands Memorial Awards were presented to Karen Lynch and John Ganschow.
Consumer Preferred Beef Entries at the SD State Fair, sponsored by the South Dakota Livestock Industry 4-H Trust Fund, were presented to Brittany Rederick and Brett Logue, both of Wakonda.
4-H scholarships, sponsored by the Clay County Youth Trust Fund, were awarded to Adam Nelson, Nina Joy and Rachel M. Nelson.
Overall awards in Home Economics were received by Leslie Larson and Rachel M. Nelson. Agriculture Overall awards were presented to Dean Miller and Evan Peterson. Tabitha Hubert received the Personal Development Overall award and Overall Achievement was received by Leslie Larson and Tabitha Hubert.
High Point Beginner, Junior and Senior Judging School participants, sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, were awarded to the following members: Rabbit � Kaia Nelson and Rachel L. Katie Strom received the Senior Demonstration Award sponsored by Garfield Township; Zach Holoch received the Junior Demonstration Award sponsored by Glenwood Township and Ariel Begley received the Beginner Demonstration award sponsored by Clay County CFL Council. Michelle Rydell � junior and Leslie Larson, senior, received the Public Speaking Awards sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association.
Fashion Revue Awards were presented to Stacey Joy, Beginner Division, sponsored by the Clay County CFL Council; Laura Aga, Junior Division, sponsored by Four Seasons, and Tabitha Hubert, Senior Division, sponsored by JoAnn Stoes.
The First Dakota Steer Classic Grand Champion Award, sponsored by First Dakota National Bank, was presented to Brett Logue of Wakonda.
Gift certificates were presented by the Southeastern South Dakota Cattlemen's Association and UCY Pork Producers for the use of beef or pork at the County 4-H Special Foods Contest. Awards went to Jennifer Lindblom, Laura Aga, Theresa Ring, John Lindblom and Tabitha Hubert.
Best Secretary's Record Book Award, which is sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was awarded to Colette Joy, Country Gals & Guys 4-H Club. Best Reporter's Scrapbook, sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was awarded to Leslie Larson, Country Gals & Guys 4-H Club.
Four-H members recognized for top sales in the Annual Fruit Sale promotion were David Jensen, Alison Jensen, jennifer Lindblom, Rachel L. Nelson, Laia Nelson and Casey Carlson.
Individual and team members placing in the Top Ten at the 1999 South Dakota State Fair Judging Contests were recognized.
