Around Town By Emma Drissen The holidays are now here and we hope you are all ready to enjoy the Christmas festivities.
We want to remind everyone to get ready for our big New Year's Eve Celebrate Vermillion! This is a family-orientated, non-alcoholic commun-
ity event for everyone of all ages. The festivities will be held at the Coyote Student Center and the DakotaDome Dec. 31, starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending with fireworks at midnight! Activities include a kids' carnival, face painting, swimming, basketball, a car racing game, Bouncy Boxing, bingo, a bridge tournament, board games, music, dancing, karaoke, a balloon drop with prize-filled balloons and much, much more.
KVHT radio personality Randy Hammer will play music throughout the night. Buttons can be purchased for $2 per person at the door, or in advance at the Chamber of Commerce and Nook 'n Cranny. Most of the costs of the evening have been underwritten by the following corporate sponsors: Community First State Bank, CorTrust Bank, First Dakota National Bank, First National Bank in Vermillion, First National Bank-South Dakota in Yankton, Gateway, Hy-Vee, Norwest Bank and Polaris Industries.
The city of Vermillion and Clay County are providing funding for the fireworks show. If you would like to volunteer to help for the evening and/or donate a prize for some of the games, please call Rick Haught, 677-5334. We hope you'll join us as we ring in the New Year 2000!
The annual Farm Show at the DakotaDome will be held Jan. 4, 5 and 6. The Chamber will again have a hospitality table at the Dome. If any members wish to have flyers or other information/giveaways on the table, please contact the Chamber at 624-5571 and we will gladly hand them out.
The W.H. Over Museum has graciously offered the Chamber space in the museum for our Farm Show Fling. We have invited eight demonstrators which include Creative Memories (photo albums), Victorian West Garden & Gift Center, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Home Interiors, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Gingerbread Rubber Stamps and handcrafted items from SESDAC.
The booths are open Jan. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and we hope those attending the Farm Show will also stop in the museum and enjoy the displays and the demonstration booths.
At this time we at the Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and peace and joy to all.
