AUPHA renews membership for USD School of Business

AUPHA renews membership for USD School of Business The Board of Directors of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) has voted to renew The University of South Dakota's School of Business membership as a "Full-Certified Undergraduate Member of AUPHA."

Full-certified membership in AUPHA indicates that an external review team, which looks at curricula, faculty, educational outcomes, and student and employer satisfaction, has critically examined the program. The certification by AUPHA for the USD Health Administration Program is in effect until 2004.

Given the absence of specialty accreditation for undergraduate health care administration programs, AUPHA has established a rigorous peer review process, modeled after accreditation, for those programs willing to undergo the rigors of external review in the interest of program excellence. An external review team reviewed USD's Health Administration Program (HSAD) during the summer of 1999.

According to Diane Duin, former director of USD's Health Services Administration Program and now director of the USD Master of Business Administration and Master of Science of Administrative Studies Programs, there are only five AUPHA certified undergraduate health administration programs located within an AACSB (The International Association for Management Education) accredited School of Business.

"Certification by AUPHA indicates that the HSAD program has met high standards for teaching students how to manage in the health care environment. The quality of those students to be good health care employees is recognized by the health care facilities in our region," said Duin.
