‘C’ team places fifth at Yankton

'C' team places fifth at Yankton The Vermillion Tanagers "C" volleyball team placed fifth in the sophomore division at the Yankton Optimist Invitational Volleyball Tournament last Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Summit Center in Yankton.

The young Tanagers defeated Lennox (3-15, 15-3, 16-14) for fifth place in the tournament.

In pool play earlier in the day the Tanagers defeated Huron (15-12, 15-2), lost to Yankton (3-15, 8-15), and lost to Spearfish (6-15, 10-15) to advance to the fifth place match.

"We played well at times during the tournament," said "C" Coach Barb Hansen. "We just need to become more consistent. We played very well against Huron in the opening match but we were flat emotionally against Yankton and Spearfish. We finished the day with a nice win against the Orioles for fifth place."

With the fifth place win, the "C" team evened their record at 3-3 for the season. The young Tanagers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 as they travel to Madison for a 6 p.m. match.
