Coyotes top Mount Senario, Sioux Falls South Dakota, ranked No. 10 in the latest NABC/Division II poll, improved its record to 7-0 with wins over Mount Senario (84-66) and Sioux Falls (95-73) last week.
The Coyotes, who shot 40.4 percent against Mount Senario on Tuesday, opened up a 40-21 lead at halftime en route to the win. The Saints outscored USD in the second half, 45-44, on 58.6 percent shooting and 41.0 for the game.
Jason Barrow paced the Coyotes with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Nathan Blessen had 19 points and nine rebounds. Ben Ries finished with 12 points and five assists, and Seth Ahrendt followed with 11 points and three blocked shots.
After holding off Sioux Falls in the first half with a 39-34 intermission lead on Thursday, the Coyotes pulled away from the Cougars in the second half shooting 66.7 percent from the field which translated into a 56-39 scoring run.
South Dakota, which shot 52.5 percent for the game, showed a balanced attack. Blessen led with 21 points. Barrow was 8-for-8 from the field and he finished with 20 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Kudera had 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Ben Ries hit four three-pointers and had 14 points. Ahrendt had seven points, while Nate Tibbetts and Eric Hickenbottom added five points apiece.
The undefeated Coyotes roared past the outmanned Mount Marty Lancers 77-46 before 3,118 fans in the DakotaDome Dec. 13.
The Coyotes had a game shooting average of 45.8 percent on 27 for 59.
Individually for USD, Barrow scored 16 points and Kudera had 13, the only double-figure scorers. Eleven Coyotes played in the game, and 10 of them scored.
The next action for the Coyotes is Dec. 28 against Midland Lutheran at the DakotaDome. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
