South Sioux City defeats Vermillion by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the South Sioux City Cardinals 67-44 in boys basketball Dec. 17 at South Sioux City, NE after getting off to a slow start.
South Sioux City, as expected, was an extremely quick team that shot very well in the first half, said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. Our defensive intensity the first half was very poor especially compared to our first two games. You can not give a team like South Sioux City a big lead like we did and expect to be able to come back its just too difficult a task.

The Tanagers trailed 26-7 after the first quarter, trailed 45-18 at halftime, and then trailed 60-31 going into the final period.
VHS is still looking for the first win of the season, now standing at 0-3, while SSC varsity is now 3-0.
VHS connected on 9 of 14 free throw attempts. The Tanagers made 16 of 34 field goals, while SSC varsity was 17 of 26 from the field. The Cardinals hit 6 of 8 free throw tries.

The Cardinals Tommy Flynn was 5-5 from the field to spark an 11-14 team effort in the first quarter.
The Tanagers had some good individual efforts despite the score.
