Tanager freshmen win in overtime play by Jim Prosser The VHS freshman Tanagers defeated the Harrisburg Tigers 32-27 in an overtime battle in boys basketball Dec. 10 at Harrisburg.
The score was tied 26-26 after regulation.
The Tanagers held Harrisburg to 1 point in overtime. Vermillion improved its record to 1-1, while Harrisburg freshmen dropped to 0-1.
Nick Olson scored 20 points to lead the Tanager scoring. He scored 4 points in overtime.
The Tanagers fell behind 9-6 after the first quarter, led 14-13 at halftime, and then trailed 21-20 after the third quarter.
�We hung right in there despite our turnovers,� said Vermillion Coach Jason Huska.
Vermillion connected on 9 of 18 free throw attempts while the Tigers hit 4 of 7 from the line.
Several individual efforts helped in the win.
�Dan Holoch, Don Necklace, Drew Lawrence and Bart Miller used a team effort defensively to hold Harrisburg to 5 points in the fourth quarter and 1 point in overtime,� Coach Huska said.
