Taylor will ring in New Year at the office by David Lias Clay County Civil Defense Director Ben Taylor doesn�t have to worry about making plans for celebrating the arrival of 2000.
South Dakota government officials have already made those plans for him.
�I invite each of you to my office at 10 p.m. New Year�s Eve,� Taylor told the Clay County Commission Tuesday. �I�ve got a registered letter from Pierre saying I�ve got to be there.�
Taylor said state government officials want to make sure that communities across South Dakota don�t experience any Y2K-related problems when the new year arrives.
�I have to make my first report right after midnight, and my second report at 2 a.m. (Jan. 1),� Taylor said. �If anything goes wrong, the state wants to know about it.�
Taylor said he call hospitals, nursing homes, Clay Rural Water and the National Guard for status reports.
