Thune presents Normandy Medals Congressman John Thune presented Jubilee of Liberty medals to Ralph Knutson, Vermillion, and Ronald Bruyer, Burbank during a Veterans Day ceremony in Canton.
The medals honor the two men for their participation in the D-Day invasion at Normandy during World War II.
Through Thune's efforts, over 200 Normandy veterans from South Dakota have received this medal. The medal is a replica of the one presented by the French government to veterans who traveled to France to participate in the 1994 ceremony that marked the 50th anniversary of D-Day.
