Vermillion School Board accepts $5,505,616 bid by M. Jill Karolevitz The Vermillion School Board accepted a $5,505,616 bid from Wiltgen Construction of LeMars, IA, for the construction project at Vermillion High School.
The motion of acceptance was passed during a special meeting of the school board Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 22.
The companys lump sum base bid of $5,214,545 was altered by the school boards acceptance of several alternates:
Filling in the library pit area (+ $21,000); additional parking (+ $99,712); adding bleachers in the gym (+24,350); adding a gymnastics landing pit (+ $9,670); and adding a full fly-loft over the stage (+ $136,339).
An additional alternate, that of using Honeywell, Inc. instead of Johnson Controls (which was listed in the bid specifications) for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, may further change the final cost of construction. According to the motion, the alternate was neither accepted nor rejected, pending further investigation by the architect, DLR Group of Omaha, NE. Accepting that alternate would lessen Wiltgens final bid by $31,000.
This was a big step for us, said Tom Craig, Vermillion School Board president. Im happy weve reached this point and can move forward.
