VHS freshman team falls to Yankton 49-32 by Jim Prosser The VHS freshmen Tanagers were shot down by the Yankton Bucks 49-32 in boys basketball Dec. 7 at Yankton.
The season-opening loss gave Vermillion a record of 0-1 while Yankton freshmen moved to 1-0.
Vermillion�s leading scorer was Jon Brooks with 11 points followed by Nick Olson with 9.
The Tanagers fell behind 8-7 at the end of the first period, trailed 27-19 at halftime, and then trailed 41-26 going into the final period.
�We needed to play a game to assess where we�re at,� said Vermillion Coach Jason Huska. �We did some positive things and we know what to work on.�
Vermillion made 4 of 13 free throw attempts while the Bucks hit 1 of 1 free throw attempts.
The Tanagers had some good individual efforts despite the score.
�Don Necklace had 3 points, Rob Schaack contributed 5 points, Bart Miller had 2 points and Drew Lawrence had 1 to finish the Tanager scoring,� Coach Huska said.
