Augustana, SDSU top USD women on court The South Dakota women's basketball team opened the NCC season Jan. 2-3 with road losses to Augustana (76-59) and South Dakota State (80-76).
The Coyotes trailed Augustana, 31-25, at halftime and USD was outscored, 45-34, during the final 20 minutes. Nelson led USD with 15 points and six rebounds. Frie had nine points and six rebounds, and Koepp followed with seven points and six boards.
In a close game with South Dakota State, the Coyotes found themselves tied with the Jackrabbits at 74-74 with 1:58 to play. However, SDSU hit a three-point field goal with 37 seconds left en route to the win.
USD, which faced a 44-39 halftime deficit, shot 56.3 percent for the game on 27 of 48 and the Coyotes held a 31-29 edge in rebounds. The difference came in three-pointers with SDSU making six more on 12 of 25, compared to 6-for-15 for the Coyotes. SDSU shot 47.5 percent from the field.
The Coyotes showed a balanced attack. Koepp led with 19 points, followed by Amanda Iverson and Jaycox with 14 apiece. Frie finished with 11. Iverson led in rebounds with seven and Dawn Sudbeck dished out 10 assists.
