Coyotes now 16-0 after win over Morningside After trailing Morningside, 10-0, with 17:13 left in the first half, South Dakota recovered and handed the Mustangs a 74-60 defeat on Saturday.
The win pushed the Coyotes' record to 16-0 overall and 7-0 in
the North Central Conference. USD has a two-game lead over Minnesota State-Mankato.
The Coyotes host St. Cloud State and Minnesota State-Mankato Friday and Saturday.
The Coyotes, who held a 37-29 halftime lead, were led by a balanced attack with five players in double scoring figures. Ben Ries and Jeremy Kudera led with 14 points apiece. Jason Barrow had 13 points, followed by Nathan Blessen with 12 and 10 for Eric Hickenbottom.
The Coyotes shot 46.8 percent for the game hitting 22 of 47, while Morningside was held to 35.4 percent on 23 of 65. The Mustangs outrebounded USD, 38-34. Leading the Coyotes was Nate Tibbetts, who grabbed eight boards along with dishing out 11 assists to go with his 7 points and six steals.
USD increased its lead to 17 points at 47-30 with 17:59 left. However, the Mustangs narrowed the gap to 8 points at 57-49 with 9:49 remaining. USD answered and took an 18-point spread at 72-54 with 3:10 to play.
