Gymnasts fall to Yankton Gazelles In a return meet, the Tanager gymnasts were again "outclassed" by the Gazelles from Yankton/Bon Homme, but they were able to maintain their team score of 105.7 at the duel in Yankton on Thursday, Jan. 20.

Amber Reisdorph was missing from the competition at this meet.

Facing a strong Class 11AA team, not many individuals placed in the top five for the VHS varsity , but the following represent the places for the young Tanagers in each event.

Vault � Meganne Hovden 6th, Terri Upward, Tabby Hubert, Brittney Gilkyson 7th (tie).

Uneven bars � Amy Schoellerman 6th, Brittney Gilkyson 7th.

Balance beam � Terri Upward 7th, Katie Connors 8th.

Floor exercise � Katie Connors 6th, Beth Pier 7th.

All Around � Terri Upward 7th.

Team scores � Yankton/Bon Homme 132.7; Vermillion 105.7.

Junior varsity places were:

Vault � Beth Pier 2nd, Sarah Christopherson 3rd, Natalie Tuetken 6th.

Uneven bars � Jenna Gilkyson 1st, Sarah Christopherson 3rd, Katie Connors � 4th.

Balance beam � Depti Naik and Carly Bernard 4th (tie), Sarah Gregg 7th.

Floor exercise � Megan Deaver 7th.

All around � Megan Deaver 3rd.

Team scores � Yankton/Bon Homme JV 83.7; Vermillion JV 65.3.

At the Jackson, MN Invitational involving 11 teams from all over the territory, the Tanagers were able to raise their season team score to a respectable 114.3, but the competition presented from the large school contingency left the team with a 10th place finish.

Amber Reisdorph was the VHS representative in All-Around with a score of 28.25 against 35 AA gymnasts. The best score for the individual VHS gymnast in each event was:

Vault � Amber Reisdorph (8.3); Floor � Amber Reisdorph (8.25); Bars � Brittney Gilkyson (7.2); Beam � Beth Pier (6.8). Tanager Team scores in each event were: Vault � 32.2; Floor � 31.6; Bars � 26.9; Beam � 23.6.

"The season is rapidly coming to a close for the Vermillion Tanager gymnasts," said Coach Mark Upward. "I like where we are right now as far as team scores go. But we still have three weeks of hard work left to improve even more."

The next meet will be held at Vermillion vs. Wagner on Monday, Jan. 31. Also watch for the 2A Regional to be held in Vermillion on Feb. 11.
