JV wrestlers travel to West Sioux tourney The Vermillion High School junior varsity wrestlers competed in the West Sioux Junior Varsity Wrestling Tournament held Monday, Jan. 10. Teams competing in the tournament included Akron-Westfield, Alcester-Hudson, Canton, Central Lyon, Hull, Western Christian, Hinton, Le Mars, Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, M-OC/Floyd Valley Sergeant Bluff-Luton, West Lyon, West Sioux and Vermillion.
Place winners for Vermillion in the tournament included: Adam Hasse (152 pounds), first place; Jason Kitto (140 pounds), second place and Brad Simons, (Heavyweight), second place.
Rich Schoellerman, Vermillion High School assistant wrestling coach, commented that "we had some very good performances by our wrestlers. This was an extremely competitive tournament for our young guys. Adam Hasse had a great tournament and capped it off with a first place finish. This tournament allowed our wrestlers to compete with athletes their own age. The future looks bright for VHS wrestling if our young wrestlers continue to improve like they have this season."
The junior varsity wrestlers were in action at the Sioux Falls Washington Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 15. Results from that tournament were unavailable at press time.
