Letters World War II info sought
To the editor:
Eighth graders at Spearfish Middle School are continuing their efforts to memorialize the South Dakota men who died in World War II. Last year's eighth grade class researched, wrote, compiled and published a book entitled Fallen Sons of South Dakota: Volume I.
Our project has many goals and levels. One goal is to perform a civic duty for our communities, counties and state by providing a written record for past, present and future generations of South Dakotans. Another goal is that in connecting and communicating with the next-of-kin of these fallen men, we are reaching out across the state and across the generations to bond in common purpose.
Our project, now in its second year, has been embraced by many who have contributed biographical information about these heroic fallen sons of South Dakota.
In Clay County, we are currently seeking information about four of the 25 listed casualties of World War II. If anyone has information about Army SSgt. Luverne F. Dixon, Army Pfc. Howard W. Rasmussen, Coast Guard MM 2C Maynard J. Christensen, or Navy Ch El H William O. Paulsen, please contact us at your earliest possible convenience.
Our e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org and our postal address is Eighth Grade West, c/o Mrs. Sheila Hansen, 525 E. Illinois, Spearfish, SD 57783. Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
