Melissa Gale, Patrick Ireland named students of the month Melissa Gale and Patrick Ireland were selected as the Vermillion High School November Students of the Month. Gale and Ireland will receive a $100 scholarship for their future education from First National Bank in Vermillion.
"Melissa is one of those exceptional students who is active in many school related activities as a participant and as a supporter," according to her faculty endorsement. She has been involved with National Honor Society, rodeo, volleyball, 4-H and her church. She has been a tutor as well as holding a job feeding, grooming, riding and training young horses.
Gale's college plans include a pre-medicine major at Chadron State College in Nebraska, where she will be on the rodeo team. She eventually hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon. Her parents are Kelly and Loretta Gale.
Ireland's musical talents are known throughout the community. His endorsement noted that, "He also is the only student at VHS for at least 20 years and probably forever who has been accepted into three regional (six states) honors choirs and one national 150 member choir. This is really an outstanding accomplishment."
His activities include concert choir, show choir, National Honor Society, band, and theatre. He is on the choir and works as the custodian at the First United Methodist Church. He was a Boys State delegate and he participated in USD's opera workshop.
Ireland's mother is Jan Ireland. He plans to attend college majoring in applied voice performance.
