Tanager freshmen lose see-saw battle by Jim Prosser The VHS freshman Tanagers put up a stiff fight for three quarters, but finally lost to the Beresford Watchdogs 52-41 in boys basketball Jan. 14 at Vermillion after sinking under an 18-6 final-period deficit.

The game had see-sawed back and forth until BHS took control for the win, after Vermillion had led by one after the third quarter.

Nick Olson and Rob Schaak each scored 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Tanagers jumped ahead 10-7 after the first quarter, trailed 24-22 at halftime, and then led 35-34 going into the final period.

�I feel we played a much better team defense,� said Vermillion Coach Jason Huska. �Offensively we got really good shots at the basket.�

The loss dropped Vermillion to a record of 1-4, while BHS improved to 3-0.

Vermillion made 0 of 2 three-pointers and made 7 of 16 from the line. The Tanagers sank 17 of 45 field goal attempts, while BHS was 20 of 48 from the field. BHS connected on 1 of 3 three-pointers and connected on 9 of 19 from the line.
