Tanager varsity loses to S.F. O'Gorman 61-43 by Jim Prosser In a game that was much closer than the final score indicated, the Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the Sioux Falls O�Gorman Knights 61-43 in boys basketball Jan. 15 at Sioux Falls.
VHS was down just four at halftime.
Bo Nelson scored 16 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, followed by Cullen Iverson with 6 points and 6 rebounds and Tim Russell with 5 points and 6 rebounds.
The Tanagers fell behind 10-7 after the first quarter, trailed 26-22 at halftime, and then trailed 46-28 going into the final period.
The Knights ended up hot from three-point range, canning 5 of 10 from long distance.
�We played extremely well in the first half,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �The boys did a nice job of feeding the posts to establish an inside game for high percentage shots. These controlled shots also allow us to set up our defense to pressure the ball.�
In the third quarter, O�Gorman�s Brandon Eberhard scored 10 points, which was half of the team�s third quarter points.
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 1-5, while O�Gorman improved to 4-3.
VHS connected on 7 of 13 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 16 of 40 field goal attempts, while O�Gorman was 22 of 58 from the field. The Knights connected on 12 of 16 from the line.
VHS was out-rebounded 42-29.
