USD men beat Auggie, SDSU South Dakota opened the North Central Conference season with a road sweep over Augustana (80-75) and South Dakota State (68-58) Jan. 2-3.
The Coyotes were hot from the field against Augustana hitting 61.2 percent on 30 of 49 attempts. Leading USD was Barrow, who was 11-for-11 from the field en route to a game-high 24 points. Blessen had 20 points and Ries finished with 13. Kudera tallied nine points and he led in rebounds with seven as USD held a 30-26 edge on the boards.
The Coyotes shot only 41.2 percent and were outrebounded, 44-31, by South Dakota State. However, the Jackrabbits were held to 36.7 percent shooting and SDSU was only 1-for-15 from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Coyotes hit eight of 24 long range shots and forced the Jackrabbits into 20 turnovers.
Barrow paced USD with 20 points and nine rebounds. Blessen and Kudera each finished with 17 points. Ries had seven points, and Nate Tibbetts notched five points and eight assists.
