Van Bruggen to speak at annual museum meeting

Van Bruggen to speak at annual museum meeting The annual meeting of the Friends of the W.H. Over Museum is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 5 in Sletwold Hall.

A pot luck dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed at 7:30 p.m. by a presentation by Ted Van Bruggen on "Native Prairie Planst." The annual meeting and Van Bruggen's talk are open to the public.

Also at the meeting, Friends President Bob Noiva will highlight activities at the Over Museum over the past year. Two exciting developments include an award from the State of South Dakota and an application to the National Park Service for a Lewis & Clark Learning Center which will be dedicated Aug. 25, to commemorate the passage of the expedition through the Vermillion area.

Over the past year, the exhibits of the W.H. Over Museum have been expanded and enhanced. For example, David Rothrock, son of Dr. Edgar P. Rothrock (former faculty member at The University of South Dakota), donated a collection of imprints from ceramic bowls of the Mimbres Ruins in New Mexico. Curtis Fallon generously donated a Western Art Collection which has been on display in Sletwood Hall. A new shell exhibit is now on display and work on the North Gallery has continued this year, but funds are needed to complete the project.

The W.H. Over Museum continues the Saturday Morning series as well as other programming. This Saturday, Jan. 29, at 9:30 a.m., Jim Peterson will provide a slideshow of "Scenes from the Missouri." Several other programs are scheduled for participants of all ages. Contact the Over Museum at 677-5228 or whover@usd.edu, or check our website (http://www.usd.edu/~
