Vermillion JV felled by third quarter deficit The Vermillion JV Tanagers lost to the Lennox JV Orioles 52-35 in boys basketball Jan. 21 at Vermillion after falling prey to a 17-4 third-quarter deficit.
Adam Brooks scored 6 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Brett Hogen scored 10 points in two quarters.
Brett Hogen gives us a nice offensive scoring punch, said VHS Coach Lance Luitjens. Unfortunately, I only get him for one half.
The Tanagers fell behind 12-10 after the first quarter, trailed 24-20 at halftime, and then trailed 41-24 after the third period.
The contest was well-played, with the Tanagers committing only 6 turnovers and the Orioles committing only 8.
We just couldnt keep them off the offensive boards, said Coach Luitjens. But I thought the guys played hard down the stretch even when the game was out of reach.
VHS saw its record fall to 2-6, while Lennox upped its mark to 5-3.
VHS connected on 11 of 18 free throw attempts. Lennox connected on 5 of three-point attempts and connected on 5 of 15 free throw attempts.
