Vermillion varsity loses to Lennox Orioles 57-40 The Vermillion High varsity Tanagers were downed by the Lennox varsity Orioles 57-40 in basketball Jan. 21 at Vermillion.
Bo Nelson scored 21 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Tim Russell had 10 rebounds.
Bo had a nice, balanced scoring game, putting up approximately 5 points per quarter, said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. This gives us a person to go to in each quarter.
The teams were deadlocked 11-11 at the end of the first period, the Tanagers trailed 26-19 at halftime, and then trailed 46-30 going into the fourth quarter.
The first half of basketball was a pretty solid performance, said Coach Terronez. Our defense was strong and we made them take shots that were contested. However, the second half was filled with turnovers, so we were spending more time on the defensive end. As fatigue set in, our defense broke down.
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 1-7, while Lennox improved to 5-4.
VHS connected on 1 of 5 three-point attempts and connected on 11 of 14 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 13 of 36 field goal attempts, while Lennox was 17 of 39 from the field. Lennox hit 4 of 6 three-point attempts and made 11 of 17 from the line.
