VHS seniors receive awards The December Vermillion High School Student of the Month award winners were announced as James Clark and Courtney Nelsen. These VHS seniors will receive a $100 scholarship to the college of their choice by First National Bank in Vermillion.
Clark is active in many school activities including debate, basketball, chorus and FCA. He is the senior class vice president, the editorial page editor of the Vermillionaire and the Student Council president. "James is an outstanding young, man. He is conscientious, organized, and an excellent leader," according to his faculty endorsement.
Judy and Dean Clark are his parents. Clark plans to study for a communications degree upon graduation.
Nelsen has had several nominations to service academies. Her goal is to attend the United States Air Force Academy with interests in astronomy and aerospace engineering. Her eventual desire is to work for NASA.
Her school activities include senior class secretary/treasurer, VHS Student Council, German Club, National Honor Society, Science Club and soccer. She also participates in Natural Helpers and Teens Against Tobacco Use. Her parents are Dennis and Connie Nelsen.
