VHS wrestlers place fifth at LHS Invite There were 16 schools represented at the Floyd Farrand Wrestling Invitational at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls during the Christmas holidays, Dec. 27-28.
Sturgis, with 226 points, won the team title, while Vermillion placed 12th and had five wrestlers win places in their weight classes.
Adam Koller, at 140 lbs., won four matches and lost two � both in overtime � to J. Cawthorn from Wagner. His tournament record gave him a fourth place finish. Heavyweight Ray O'Oconnor also lost two matches in overtime while winning three and gaining a fourth place. At 171 lbs. Chris Sinkie won three matches, lost one and suffered a medical disqualification in his final (consolation), which gave him a fourth place in his class.
Other successful participants were: at 145 lbs., Elliot Hasse won three, lost two; and at 152 lbs., Jared Thedorff had a 3-2 record also. Both finished seventh in their respective classes.
"With nearly half of the teams entered being ranked in the top ten in either Class A or B, the competition was outstanding and gave us a chance to evaluate our boys for the progress they have made, thus far," said Coach Brett Jones.
