Canton C-Hawks defeat frosh 52-40 by Jim Prosser In a game that was closer than the score indicated, the VHS freshmen Tanagers were downed by the Canton freshmen C-Hawks 52-40 in boys basketball Jan. 28 at Canton.
Vermillion had been within two going into the fourth period.
�We played a very ?team� oriented game,� said Vermillion Coach Jason Huska. �We had balanced scoring and good defensive pressure. We had to take some chances late in the game, otherwise, this was probably our most competitive game. I was very pleased with everyone�s play.�
The Tanagers fell behind 15-8 after the first quarter, but advantages of 13-9 and 11-10 in the second and third quarters sliced the deficit to only 34-32 going into the final period.
Vermillion saw its record fall to 1-8, while Canton upped its mark to 8-2.
Vermillion connected on 1 of 6 free throw tries while the C-Hawks made 8 of 10 free throw tries.
