Cubs' fourth quarter rally defeats Tanagers by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers fell victim to a fourth-quarter rally and were topped by the Alcester-Hudson varsity Cubs 50-43 in boys basketball Jan. 25 at home.
VHS had led by three after the third quarter.
Bo Nelson led with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
�Bo really did a nice job of attacking the basket, but his teammates also did a nice job of getting him the ball,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez.
The Tanagers jumped in front 12-9 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 22-17 at halftime, and then held a lead of 33-30 going into the final period.
VHS lost the game from the free throw line, making 2 of 11 charity tosses compared with 19 of 27 for Alcester-Hudson.
�The boys played a solid defensive game, with the exception of the fouls,� said Coach Terronez. �We held them to 15 baskets, but they were 18 of 26 from the free throw line.�
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 1-8, while Alcester-Hudson improved to 9-2.
VHS made 1 of 13 three-pointers. The Tanagers sank 19 of 42 field goals, while Alcester-Hudson was 14 of 42 from the field. Alcester-Hudson sank 1 of 2 three-pointers.
