Duo cello-piano recital is Feb. 17 Cellist David Low, Kayser Distinguished Professor of Cello at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Lithuanian pianist Rimantas Vingras, professor of piano at Siauliai University, will perform a duo cello-piano recital Feb. 17 at Colton Recital Hall, the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. The event is sponsored by the Department of Music and will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
The concert will emphasize music from the Americas and Eastern Europe, both piano solo music and cello-piano works. This program is a preview of the concerts the duo will perform in a tour of five Lithuanian cities in June 2000.
From solo performances in China with the Beijing Film Philharmonic repeat recitals in Carnegie Hall, Low's stage presence and personality have delighted audiences in cities everywhere.
Vingras is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and the Music Academy of Lithuania and has been active in concerts throughout Lithuania, Russia, Germany and Switzerland both as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a specialist in the music of Scriabin and Lithuanian composer Mikalojous Ciurlionis.
