JV Tanagers lose to Wildcats 52-41 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion JV Tanagers lost to the Custer Wildcats 52-41 in boys basketball Feb. 5 at Vermillion as the winners held the lead after each quarter.
�Nick Olson had a great fourth quarter scoring 6 of his 11 points,� said VHS Coach Lance Luitjens. �I was really proud of how we played. That was the best JV team we�ve faced and we were without our leading scorer.�
The Tanagers fell behind 11-8 after the opening period, trailed 25-19 at halftime, and then trailed 39-24 after the third period.
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 6-8, while the Custer junior varsity improved to 9-4.
VHS hit 8 of 16 free throw attempts while the Wildcats sank 10 of 15 from the line.
Even with the loss, the Tanagers had several good individual efforts.
�Matt Bedard picked up the defense in the second half shutting down their best point player,� Coach Luitjens said.
