Koller and O’Connor are region wrestling champs

Koller and O'Connor are region wrestling champs Vermillion had 12 representatives competing at the Region 2A Wrestling Tournament at Yankton on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 17-18.

The following are the results of the Tanager wrestlers in each weight class entered in each round:

First round

Consolation Finals

125 � Parsons lost by dec.; 145 � Hasse lost by fall (3:11).

Championship

140 � Koller won by 8-4 dec.; 171 � Sinkie lost 7-5 (OT); 275 � O'Connor won by 4-2 (OT).

Vermillion finished in sixth place, scoring 75 points. Adam Koller, with the 8-4 decision over Hennings of Sioux Falls Roosevelt, won the 140-lb. class and Ray O'Connor was champion at 275 lbs. by out-pointing Kyle Wilson, also from Roosevelt, in a 4-2 overtime win. Chris Sinkie earned the "Pinners Award."

By virtue of their finishes in the top four of the weight class entered, Sinkie (second), Parsons and Hasse (fourth) qualify for the state meet in Aberdeen Feb. 25-26.
