Miskimins meets with Sen. Daschle in capital Vermillion High School junior Stacey Miskimins met with Senator Tom Daschle during her recent visit to Washington, D.C. as part of the Presidential Classroom Scholars Program, which gives students an inside look at how Congress and the federal government work.
Shortly after her meeting with Daschle, Miskimins joined the senator, President Clinton and other Congressional leaders at the Democrats "Families First Agenda" meeting. At the event she heard Daschle and Clinton speak about this year's agenda, which focuses on using future budget surpluses to pay off the national debt by 2013, strengthening Social Security and Medicare, and cutting taxes for working families.
"I'm glad Stacey was able to join other talented students from around the country in the nation's capital to see how our government works," Daschle said. "It is important that we encourage bright young leaders, such as Stacey, to pursue their interests and get the most from their talents."
Miskimins 16, who was the only classroom participant from South Dakota, is an active member of 4-H, and a high school debate letter winner.
