Patriots defeat Vermillion 60-45 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were downed by the Douglas Patriots 60-45 in boys basketball Feb. 4 at home as the winners held the lead after each quarter.

�We located the shooters out of our zone in the first quarter extremely well, but in the second quarter they shot 5-6 from the 3-point line,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �After that it was a game of catch up, and their 3-point shooting success and superior rebounding was more than we could overcome.�

The Tanagers trailed 9-6 after the opening period, trailed 25-14 after the second quarter, and then trailed 43-22 after the third quarter.

VHS saw its record fall to 1-10, while Douglas varsity upped its mark to 11-5.

VHS sank 2 of 7 three-point attempts and connected on 7 of 10 free throw attempts. The Tanagers sank 16 of 27 field goals, while Douglas varsity was 13 of 31 from the field. Douglas varsity hit 7 of 23 three-point tries and sank 13 of 20 from the line.
