Vermillion wrestlers compete in Bon Homme Invitational by Jim Prosser The Bon Homme Junior High/Junior Varsity Wrestling Invitational was held on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Teams from Bon Homme, Scotland/Menno, Parkston, Madison, Wagner, Crofton, Yankton, Elk Point-Jefferson, Lennox and Vermillion competed in the tournament.
Participants and place winners for Vermillion in the tournament in the 7th- and 8th-grade division included:
Ben Pike, 160 lbs., 0-2 record, and Kenny Mays, 125 lbs., 0-2 record.
Place winners for Vermillion in the tournament in the junior varsity division included:
Tyler Zimmerman, 119 lbs., 4th place, 1-2 record; Kristian Reynolds, 189 lbs., 4th place, 2-2 record; Brad Simons, Hwt., 3rd place, 1-1 record; Kellen Cusick, 171 lbs., 1st place, 3-0 record.
Casey O�Connor, Vermillion Middle School wrestling coach, said �we had great performances by all of our wrestlers. Our young guys have improved every time we have stepped on the mat.
�This tournament allowed our wrestlers to complete with athletes their own age,� he added.
The 7th- and 8th-grade wrestlers� next action will be at the Yankton Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
