VHS gymnasts place fifth, scoring 116.55 at state meet The Tanager gymnastics team placed fifth in the South Dakota Class A championships on Friday, Feb. 18 at Huron, scoring 116.55 points.
The tournament consisted of individual and team competition with medals presented to the top 15 placers in each event.
Vermillion's medalists were:
All Around � Amber Reisdorph, 18th; Uneven bars � Brittney Gilkyson, 10th; Floor � Reisdorph, 12th; Vault � Katie Connors, 14th.
"We performed very well on the vault and floor," said Coach Mark Upward. "As a team, our effort on the bars and beam were commendable, but the judges' scoring didn't reflect that."
Tanagers who did not earn medalist honors but who scored well were:
Balance beam � Tabitha Hubert, 20th, Amber Reisdorph, 21st, Beth Pier, 23rd, Terri Upward, 26th; Uneven bars � Amy Schoellerman, 22nd, Upward, 34th, Reisdorph, 36th; Floor � Upward, 18th, Pier, 22nd, Meganne Hovden, 24th, Connors, 27th; Vault � Gilkyson, 26th, and Reisdorph, 30th.
Coach Upward also recognized several other gymnasts who contributed to the team score but were not eligible for individual places � Natalie Tuetken on bars (6.985) and Jenny Merrigan on beam (5.75). The team says farewell to the four seniors on the squad � Salina Dunkenson, Merrigan, Schoellerman and Upward.
