Baseball team posts 6-3 record in Florida South Dakota finished its spring baseball schedule in Panana City, FL with a 19-8 loss to Ohio Dominican last Saturday.
The Coyotes, who were 6-3 in Florida, have a season record of 11-3 and will play at Truman State in Kirksville, MO this Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19.
USD fell behind Ohio Dominican, 9-0, after the first inning. The Coyotes collected 10 hits in the game led by Leonard Rau, who went 3-for-3 with two singles and a three-run home run in the second inning. Darold DeBolt was 2-for-3 with a single and a solo home run.
Last Friday, the Coyotes swept Urbana (6-0) and Truman State (3-2). USD had 12 hits against Urbana led by Dustin Moore, who went 2-for-4 and extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 12 games.
Don Busi was 2-for-3 and he drove in two runs, and Josh Kuecker was 1-for-4 with three runs scored. Ryan Goodwin picked up the win and he allowed only two hits in his complete game victory.
In the second game, the Coyotes were paced by Jeff Snell, who was 2-for-3 with a single and triple, and Zane Gibbons drove in a run with a triple. Winning pitcher Matt McDermott went the distance and surrendered three hits.
In the first meeting against Ohio Dominican last Thursday, the Coyotes recorded a 5-4 win. Kuecker improved his pitching record to 4-0, and he was 2-for-3 at the plate with a single and home run. Moore had a single and double, and Nathan Dunlap added two singles.
The Coyotes lost to Marietta College (9-8) and defeated Charleston (7-2) last Tuesday. Against Marietta, Snell belted a grand slam home run in the first inning and a two-run homer in the seventh to highlight a 12-hit attack. Kuecker went 4-for-4 in the win over Charleston, and Rau was 3-for-4.
South Dakota split with Urbana last Monday with a 3-2 win in the first game and a 9-5 loss in the second game. Moore went 3-for-4 in the opener. Snell connected for a home run in the nightcap, while Derek Huxford and Kuecker had two hits apiece.
