Commission hears plea for burning ban in county by David Lias The Vermillion Volunteer Fire Department has been so troubled by a recent rash of grass fires in Clay County that it has asked for the county's help.

"We're just wondering if you could look at something in the future to maybe eliminate some of the problems that the fire department is having and try to get something on the books that gives us a little control," Fire Chief Doug Brunick told the Clay County Commission Tuesday.

The county has investigated the possibility of approving an ordinance similar to state law that would prohibit burning during dry conditions. Commissioners asked Brunick to bring a model ordinance setting burning ban guidelines for the county to consider.
