Margheim, Jacobs are students of month February selections for the First National Bank Student of the Month awards went to Tim Margheim and Katie Jacobs. Vermillion High School students receiving this honor have demonstrated leadership in the classroom as well as in extra curricular activities. Each recipient will receive a $100 scholarship from First National Bank, Vermillion.
Margheim's "overall attitude and effort" were impressive according to his faculty recommendation. He is a National Merit Finalist and he recently ranked in the top 25 out of 1,018 students who took the Drake Physics test. His parents are Al and Ellen Margheim.
An abundance of activities fill his schedule including Swing Choir, National Honor Society, AWANA's, First Priority Christian Club, and debate. His future plans include a business administration major followed by study in the seminary for fulltime Christian ministry.
Jacobs has an extensive music background. She is involved with the VHS Orchestra, USD Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band/Jazz Combo, and the Dixieland Band. Additional activities include debate and the Recycling Club. She "has done these things with leadership, professionalism, maturity, care and grace" as noted in the teacher's endorsement.
Her parents are Drs. Gerard and Geralyn Jacobs. She plans to attend The University of South Dakota for a double major in science and music.
