Petitions filed for local races Some holders of local government offices whose terms will soon expire have filed nominating petitions for re-election.
An election may not be necessary, however, if the individuals seeking another term are unopposed.
Sheila Donnelly, business manager of the Vermillion School District, reports that Vermillion School Board incumbents Tom Craig and Mark Bottolfson have each filed petitions to fill two pending three-year term vacancies.
City Finance Officer Mike Carlson reports that the following incumbent members of the Vermillion City Council have filed nominating petitions: Barbara Yelverton, Central Ward, two-year term; Gary Wright, Northeast Ward, two-year term and Richard Burbach, Northwest Ward, two-year term.
He added that Mayor William Radigan and Alderman Roger Kozak of the Southeast Ward are still circulating petitions.
The deadline for filing petitions for school board and city council with Donnelly or Carlson is 5 p.m. March 10. If needed, a city/school election will be held April 11.
