Rugby team defeats Sioux Falls The University of South Dakota Women's Rugby team defeated Sioux Falls 74-0 in Vermillion Saturday.
It was the first match this semester for the team as they prepare for the Western Collegiate Championships in Lawrence, KS, on April 1 and 2. A top-two finish there will take USD to the Sweet 16 in Princeton, NJ on April 15 and 16.
USD qualified for the Western tournament with wins over CU and Nebraska last fall.
USD saw seven players score trys (touchdowns) Saturday and all reserves got in the game. Senior flyhalf Tera Geohring scored five trys for the 11-0 Coyotes and senior Michelle Mellegard converted seven of 12 conversion kicks.
Over 35 USD women are out for rugby this semester. Next action for the team is Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. in Vermillion against Truman State and SDSU. The men's team will host SDSU that day also.
