Tanager JV ends season with 52-43 loss to Orioles by Jim Prosser The Vermillion JV Tanagers lost to the Lennox High School Orioles 52-43 in boys basketball Feb. 25 at Lennox.
This was the Tanager JV�s last game of the season. The loss dropped VHS to a record of 8-11, while Lennox improved to 12-5.
Nick Olson scored a total of 19 points, and scored 15 of them in the second half.
�Nick Olson really came out to play after some ?encouragement� at halftime,� said VHS Coach Lance Luitjens.
The Tanagers led 12-8 after the opening period, trailed 21-18 at halftime, and then trailed 33-29 going into the fourth quarter.
�I�d take Lennox over any other JV team in the state and the boys were within 3 points with 2 minutes to play,� said Coach Luitjens.
VHS sank 3 of 7 three-point tries and sank 6 of 10 free throw attempts. The Tanagers sank 14 of 36 from the field, while Lennox was 19 of 45 from the field. Lennox sank 1 of 3 three-pointers and sank 11 of 16 free throw attempts.
The Tanagers had some excellent individual performances in defeat.
�I really enjoyed coaching this team because the were so unselfish, and they tried to do everything I asked them to do,� Coach Luitjens said.
