USD women fall to SDSU, Augustana; end at 11-16 South Dakota finished the season 11-16 overall and 4-14 in the North Central Conference after losing home games last Friday and Saturday to South Dakota State (85-79) and Augustana (82-59).
After double digit deficits, the Coyotes trailed SDSU at halftime, 42-36. In the second half, USD continued its surge and in fact led for most of the second half.
USD held margins of 4 points five times with the last being 77-73 with 2:07 to play. The Coyotes still led, 79-78, with 1:11 remaining before the Jackrabbits went on a 7-0 scoring run for the win.
The Coyotes, who shot 34.9 percent to SDSU's 42.0, were led by Heather Nelson with 21 points. Julia Frie had 15 points and Kelly Koepp had 13. Amanda Iverson, Nicole Jaycox and Melinda Oster had 9 points apiece. Koepp and Iveson each pulled down seven rebounds.
South Dakota fell behind Augustana, 42-31, at halftime and the Coyotes were outscored, 40-28, during the final 20 minutes. The Vikings connected on 46.9 percent from the field compared to 34.9 for the Coyotes, who were also outrebounded, 49-36.
Nelson paced USD in scoring again with 18 points. Koepp had 8 points and Oster added 6.
