City experiences power failures A power outage affected customers on High Street and Dartmouth at 12:30 p.m. March 22. The 30 minute outage was caused by a squirrel on overhead primary lines.
An hour-long power outage occurred Thursday, March 23. At noon, residents on Valley View, Crestview, Catalina, Sharpe and Ridgecrest were affected. The bottom substation on Chestnut Street encountered an equipment failure. The cause of failure is undetermined.
"The bottom substation is over 50 years old. We are diligently working to change this area from overhead 2.4kV to 13.8kV underground," said Mike Hays, electrical superintendent.
