Coyote women sweep Bears of Northern CO The University of South Dakota women's softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Northern Colorado in North Central Conference action Saturday.
South Dakota scored five runs in the final two innings to rally for a 6-4 victory in the opener.
USD plated three runs in the sixth, then added two more in the seventh on Tiffany Davis's two-run homer.
Carla Hunt went 2-4 with a double in the win.
Janice Alswager went the distance on the mound for the victory, allowing six hits. Laura Duggan took the loss.
USD scored 10 runs in the final three innings of the second game, routing the Bears 14-4.
The Coyotes jumped ahead early, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Northern Colorado tied the game with two runs each in the first and third innings.
USD opened the floodgates with an RBI double in the fifth, the first of three runs in the inning. The Coyotes scored once in the sixth, then put the game out of reach with six runs in the seventh.
Alswager had a home run and a triple to lead USD. Leanna Chapman had a triple and a single, Jessica Bills had a double and a single, driving in two runs.
Tiffany Hill picked up the win in relief. Tatum Kaul took the loss.
