ESA International will sponsor baby contest Members of the Theta Omega chapter of ESA International are sponsoring a "Beautiful Baby Photo Contest" the week of April 24-29.
Proud parents and grandparents are asked to enter their child's or grandchild's photo in a "penny a vote" contest to determine the area's most beautiful baby. Proceeds from the contest will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Registration for the contest will be held at Hy-Vee Food Store and Jones' Food Center on Monday, April 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Three photos of each contestant will be needed. Color photos are preferred and photos should be no larger than 5'' x 7''.
Children from birth through 5 years of age may be entered in the contest. Winners will be determined by monetary vote. Each penny will equal one vote. ("Pennies" may be in the form of larger coins or bills; for example one dollar will equal 100 votes.)
Photos will be on display and "ballot boxes" will be open in both stores on Thursday and Friday, April 27 and 28, from 1 to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. At the time of registration, parents and/or grandparents will also be provided with a "ballot box" in which to collect the votes of family and friends.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. Certificates of appreciation will be given to all participants. The top prize will be a $50 savings bond and a St. Jude T-shirt for both the child and the sponsoring parent or grandparent. Second prize will be a St. Jude T-shirt for both child and sponsor and a St. Jude tote bag. The third prize will be a T-shirt for the child and parent or grandparent.
Opened in 1962, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was established to care for children stricken with catastrophic diseases and to conduct medical research on those diseases. Children are admitted to St. Jude Hospital without regard to race, creed or religion.
Admission is based solely on a medical determination. There is no financial test for admission. Admission is limited only by the requirements that the disease be under study at the hospital, that the patient have received no prior treatment, and that the child be referred by a physician.
St. Jude's findings and protocols are freely shared with physicians and scientists throughout the world (including local communities such as Vermillion), extending the benefits of its work beyond its own patients to children and adults everywhere.
During its 30 year association with St. Jude Hospital, ESA International has raised over $30,000,000 to help in the search for cures for catastrophic diseases of children including leukemia, pediatric AIDS, solid tumor cancers, neuroblastoma, and malnutrition so that, in the words of the hospital's founder, entertainer Danny Thomas, "no child will die in the dawn of life."
